What is it about?
Mouse models that develop hypertension are widely used to study the cause of high blood pressure in people. Blood pressure high (BPH) mice have a genetic predisposition for developing hypertension but the primary genes involved were previously unknown.

Why is it important?
Humans have high blood pressure for many different reasons. Multiple genes are often involved and therefore the cause is polygenic. A mouse that also has a polygenic predisposition for hypertension is therefore a useful model for studying the cause of high blood pressure in people.
