What is it about?
PrEP (Pre-exposure prophylaxis) is one of the most effective biomedical HIV prevention strategies; however, use among gay and bisexual men remains low. This study explored familiarity with, attitudes toward, uptake and discontinuation of PrEP among a sample of gay and bisexual men in the United States. Familiarly with PrEP has increased from 2016 to 2018, and was generally viewed as favorable. Although PrEP use increased initially, the study found that some discontinued their PrEP use later on.

Why is it important?
Although study participants generally viewed PrEP favorably, discontinuing PrEP remains an issue that requires additional support in order to reduce the spread of HIV among gay and bisexual men.
