What is it about?
The emergence of Zoonotic diseases such as COVID-19, that originate in animals and impact global public health has led to recognition of the need for Physicians, vets, social workers, environmental health workers to collaborate towards preventing future pandemics. Evaluating the readiness of MD, DVM students will assist us in developing Interprofessional Education (IPE) platforms, that can prepare our future doctors and vets for adopting a One Health approach in preventing and responding to emerging diseases of animal origin severely impacting global public health.

Why is it important?
For too long, physicians, and vets have worked in siloes, failing to recognize the need for us to adopt a One Health approach for optimizing the health of animals, environment and the people that make up our planet. Education that brings us all together can optimize our learning and collaborative skills for optimizing Planetary Health.
Perspectives
One Health is a conceptual framework we must recognize as key to preventing zoonotic diseases, limiting climate change impacts and other public health issues threatening global public health including food security, antimicrobial resistance. Interprofessional Education is a key pedagogical platform for delivering One Health education and awareness.
