What is it about?
Goats are very important livestock resources in Africa and particularly Cameroon. Cameroon is located in Central Africa and therefore having influence of centuries of migratory dynamics. The study deciphered the genome to assess genetic diversity of native goat populations and also showed the divergence with other known goats' populations from Africa and Asia. It happened that Cameroon goats have relationships with goats in South Africa, which is very new for this species, opening new avenues for human migrations and livestock exchanges.

Why is it important?
Africa native goats have been neglected in many wide genome diversity investigation programs. For the very first time, these goats, which some are known to be resistant to hemoparasites and other less, as well as express some interest in fecundity have never been studied with these tools. For breeding and conservation goals, it was necessary to have a benchmark, which is now achieved with these key findings.
