What is it about?
Shigella flexerni expresses enterotoxins to induce watery diarrhea during infection. This study validated the function of previously described toxins ShET1 and ShET2 and also identified the contribution of Pic and SepA to Shigella enterotoxin activity. Additionally, this study demonstrated that the use of mouse jejunum in Ussing chambers is a reliable and reproducible model to study bacterial enterotoxins.
