What is it about?
Transglutaminase-2 is an interesting bifunctional protein that is found in many fibroblasts. In the sclera, modulation of the extracellular matrix produced by fibroblasts can affect axial length elongation of the growing eye and therefore has importance consequences. For example, the elongation may lead to myopia, a refractive error during development.

Why is it important?
Myopia is a very common condition in Asia countries. It may be possible to target transglutaminase-2 to reduce the development of myopia.
