What is it about?
This study introduces a digital health tool designed to measure and support early childhood educators’ knowledge, attitudes, confidence, and behaviors in promoting physical literacy. Physical literacy includes key skills, motivation, and understanding that help build lifelong healthy movement habits in young children. Developed in response to a gap in existing tools, the PLKASB-ECE provides a comprehensive assessment across multiple areas of physical literacy for educators. This quick and user-friendly tool allows educators to reflect on their skills, supporting them in creating environments that foster physical literacy in children.

Why is it important?
This tool addresses a gap in early childhood education by offering a validated, comprehensive tool that equips educators to assess and strengthen their capacity to support physical literacy in young children. Physical literacy is essential for healthy development, and early childhood educators play a key role in establishing these foundations for preschoolers in their care. This tool not only gives educators insight into their current skills but also supports the development of strategies to nurture children’s positive relationship with physical activity. This tool provides a first step toward future research and interventions that could strengthen physical literacy development in early childhood leading to improved physical activity in later life stages.
