Why is it important?

Tailoring interventions to the needs of the users is critical to increase their chances of success. Our findings can help decision-makers design more effective policies, information systems and tools to support the growth of the Indonesian poultry industry in a safe and sustainable way while protecting the livelihoods of those who depend on it.

Perspectives

As epidemiologists, we tend to focus on the biological determinants of health. Interacting with a large variety of actors from government, academia and the private sector allowed us to uncover health factors that are often overlooked in epidemiological studies but nonetheless crucial to ensure the effectiveness of prevention and control policies. We hope this article will contribute to further emphasize the importance of a whole-of-society approach of animal health problems, including the social, economic and political aspects.
