What is it about?

Laboratory testing of whether a drug will work involves dissolving the drug in water and carrying out tests. This process is slow and expensive when there are many drug candidates to choose from. This paper provides a miniaturized platform to speed up this process.

Why is it important?

The technology is important for the pharmaceutical industry which can carry out more tests on hydrophobic compounds that are incompatible with the state of the art technology. The miniaturization makes it portable for use in high biosafety facilities and at the point of care for identification of personalized treatments on individual patients.

Perspectives

This paper is the latest result of more than 10 years of proof of concept research on the technology. It is now at a state that is ready to be used for real world applications in drug discovery and precision medicine.
