What is it about?

This study focuses on a condition called Post-Acute COVID-19 Syndrome (PACS), where individuals continue to experience symptoms even after recovering from the acute phase of COVID-19. PACS can significantly impact their quality of life and ability to return to work. We examined the prevalence and risk factors associated with PACS among severe COVID-19 patients who were discharged from the Millennium COVID-19 Care Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Why is it important?

This research is important because an increasing number of people are experiencing long-term effects of COVID-19 known as Post-Acute COVID-19 Syndrome (PACS). These persistent symptoms can seriously impact a person's ability to work and have negative effects on their mental, social, and financial well-being. In Ethiopia, there is currently no dedicated clinic or guidelines for managing post-COVID symptoms. This study aims to fill that gap by understanding the burden of PACS in Ethiopia.

Perspectives

I hope the findings of this study will help guide the development of appropriate healthcare services and support for individuals with long-term COVID-19 symptoms.
