What is it about?

Bryophyllum pinnatum (Lam.) Oken (BP) is used by different traditional medicines. We show psychoactive effects on zebrafish larvae after acute exposure under normal and stressed conditions. These results suggest that BP leaves can decrease or alleviate symptoms such as fear and anxiety.

Why is it important?

Anxiety is an important symptom that can lead to disturbing disorders, when excessive or uncontrolled, impairing quality of life and even triggering other pathologies. Intervening in anxiety control is essential. On the other hand, plants can serve as therapeutic options, when well applied. This research presents interesting results on this topic, which can serve as a basis for deepening other studies, in an attempt to contribute with safe and effective proposals.
