What is it about?

We asked pet owners what they have experienced and what they want when visiting their veterinarian. Pet owners emphasized wanting their veterinarian to learn about them and share information that is personalized to them so that they can make informed decisions about their pet’s health. We also identified barriers that made it more difficult for veterinarians to meet the needs of their clients.

Why is it important?

Understanding what pet owners expect from their veterinarian can help ensure that their pets’ needs are going to be met. Our findings show that pet owners are motivated to be involved in their pet’s veterinary care, and that when they feel they have a say in their pet’s care, their relationship with their veterinarian is positively impacted, which may improve client satisfaction and help meet the needs of more pets.
