What is it about?

Our study was about how caesarean section (CS) birth has changed in Ghana over the 24-year period, from 1998-2022. Using data from the Ghana Demographic and Health Survey (GDHS). We examine what leads to a woman to give birth through CS. Findings from our study shows that CS birth has increased across the years. Mother who live in urban areas, are more educated, come from wealthier household are more likely to give birth through CS.

Why is it important?

CS birth rates are increasing across the globe and there is a need for evidence to identify who is more likely to deliver through CS and guide decision making.

Perspectives

I undertook this study to provide insight into the drivers of the rising CS deliveries in Ghana and ensure that every woman in Ghana can access safe and appropriate CS delivery when she truly needs it.
