What is it about?

Dengue is a viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes, affecting around 90 million people each year worldwide. Being able to predict whether a person is likely to develop medical complications is important and can help improve treatment. We used machine learning methods to analyse patient information which is routinely-collected in a hospital to Vietnam to see if we can help with patient care.

Why is it important?

We found that machine learning could be used to support doctors in treating dengue by using existing information more effectively. The models developed in our article showed we were able to predict which patients were at low risk of developing complications and were safe to discharge home.
