What is it about?

Anticipating changes in water stores is crucial for good decision-making, particularly in drylands. Here we develop a methodology to lnk a state-of-the-art model of dryland hydrology to seasonal rainfall forecasts. This results in high-resolution forecasts of key variables for decision-making, such as soil moisture, groundwater recharge and flood risk.

Why is it important?

Our work defines a simple method to link any complex model to the seasonal rainfall forecasts produced in the region. This can bypass the need to set up computational intensive workflows, allowing broad but precise insights to be gained in a simple and transparent way.
