What is it about?

This study tested the relationship between race, social desirability, that is, the desire to present oneself in a favorable manner, and risky sexual behavior (e.g., condomless sex). It was found that higher social desirability was associated with lower sexual risk only among Black men who have sex with men. In other words, Black men who have sex with men who tend to present themselves in a more favorable light reported lower intentions to engage in risk sexual behavior compared to Black MSM who were less likely to present themselves favorably. In contrast, there was no relation between social desirability and endorsement of risky sexual behavior for White men who have sex with men.
