The purpose of this paper is to help police identify those verbally providing a false address, by identifying common cognitive processes associated with the construction of a false address

Why is it important?

Establishing where an individual lives is an important means of also establishing their identity. This becomes ever more important for police when stopping individuals in the street. The additional means suggested in this paper, provides police with a simple way of establishing the veracity of address giving by focusing on the postal/zip code provided. Why would you attempt to lie to police about your address, unless you had something to hide?

Perspectives

It is hypothesized that most people find it difficult to spontaneously fabricate an entire false address. As a consequence they provide identifiable clues as to the real address being concealed,
