What is it about?
This paper included, for the first time, a large number of polyethylene tibial inserts which had undergone volumetric wear analysis using validated methodology. It showed that while contemporary polyethylene bearing wear is much lower than historical comparisons, contemporary inserts exhibit unusual patterns of backside deformation. This backside deformation appears to be linked to cement debonding and failure secondary to tray loosening.
