What is it about?

Biofilms can be found of many surfaces but their formation in the wound bed can be troublesome, they can lead to delays in healing and prolong the inflammatory phase. Once established within the wound bed they can be diifficult to remove and certain measures need to be taken to prevent them forming in the first instance.

Why is it important?

Increase awareness of biofilms within wound healing and their significance. Early detection and prevention can improve wound healing outcomes for both the clinician and the patient.

Perspectives

It's important as veterinary and healthcare professionals that we understand how biofilms form and their significance in wound healing and how they can create delays. A greater understanding can mean early detectioon or prevention of a mature biofilm within the wound bed.
