What is it about?

A study has been done to understand nurses' perceptions toward end of life care in a cancer hospital in Qatar. Approximately, one-third of the participants had positive perceptions of end of life care. The majority of the nurses were uncertain or ambivalent regarding end of life events and situations.

Why is it important?

Nurses have an important impact on end of life care, and continuous education is necessary to improve their confidence when they work with dying patients and their families. An in-house programme to help nurses cope with compassionate exhaustion and humanistic and relational care is highly recommended.

Perspectives

This is a very important study to initially assess oncology nurses' perceptions about end of life care.
