Why is it important?

Advancing Practice is a key plank to progress the NHS Long term workforce plan. As the design and delivery of health and social care becomes more complex, knowledge of the key contribution advanced practitioners make to patient care will need to be known. People with Learning Disability and/or Autism have diverse and complex needs and the nuances and intricacies of working effectively with this group of people are less known. This paper aims to scope the literature specifically related to advancing practice in the Learning Disability and/or Autism field.

Perspectives

One way a society can be judged to be caring, is the way in which it responds to its most vulnerable groups of people. The team involved in this paper are committed to raising the profile of the advanced nature of working effectively with People with Learning Disability and/or Autism. We hope this protocol, the first of two papers related to Advanced practice will further profile this unique field of practice.
