What is it about?

Arthritis causes inflammation of the joint lining. Receptors in the joint lining respond to chemical messengers released in the joint and convey the sensation of pain via nerves to the brain. This article explains an important area of this process, mediated by a molecule called nerve growth factor (NGF). New therapies are able to block the action of NGF and so provide relief from pain in arthritis.
