A nurse's perspective on the impact of coronavirus on health and the economy

What is it about?

This article reflects on the Coronavirus Pandemic (Covid-19), and provides one nurse’s personal perspective of the impact on health and the economy. Although, based on the feedback from my colleagues, it is a perspective that may also reflect the majority view of the entire profession. Management of this pandemic has proven challenging, a challenge that was compounded by uncertainty, a lack of experience, insight and understanding of the virus’s behaviour. For the NHS, the virus has placed a significant burden on the organisation’s efforts to deliver high quality, compassionate care to the public, and for the government, on their efforts to contain the virus whilst attempting to control the spiralling pressures on the economy. Content discusses: the management of Covid-19 and the measures in place, specifically, the vaccine to limit the virus’s reach; the impacts and consequences of the virus; the potential ramifications for the country, domestically, and internationally.

Why is it important?

It is important because it highlights the challenges faced by the NHS and the government, but specifically, those faced by healthcare providers, namely nurses and doctors, and the ensuing impact on them.
