What is it about?

Temperature is a fundamental parameter in both deaths and hospital admissions. Daily temperature in central England between 1772 and 2012 is used to illustrate long term cycles in temperature and the fact that temperature volatility decreased in the period 1770 to early 1900. Temperature volatility is a neglected variable in health care costs.

Why is it important?

Different parts of the UK experience different patterns of temperature volatility. This volatility is not reflected in the funding received by different locations.
