What is it about?
THis article describes the work of an international collaboration for community health nurses called ICCHNR, which is a UK charity. ICCHNR has members and affiliates across the world who work together to share research findings and research awareness. We focus on events such as conferences, symposia and lectures that are open to nurses and the public to advance community nursing research and build an evidence base for practice. As a charity, one of our objects is to promote research to nurses and the public through education. We also provide scholarships to community nurses from low and middle income countries to provide opportunities for under-represented nurses to take part in research.

Why is it important?
Across the world the majority of citizens live, work, go to school or college in their communities. They experience pregnancy, birth, growing up and development, becoming unwell and under-going treatment, growing older, chronic illness and end of life largely in the community they live in. Hospital for most is a short and sporadic experience. People living in their community need health and social care to support them, the community nursing service provides life long care for people at all stages in their life . To ensure optimal care and improvement in practice, nurses need to understand the most up to date research that underpins practice and to be enabled to undertake their own research into areas where they can see need for change or improvement. ICCHNR.org aims to support and promote such research internationally in the interest of promoting and improving community health for all countries.
