What is it about?
In 2020, the first clinical toxicology advanced nurse practitioner and independent prescriber post was introduced in the United Kingdom. The case study describes thsi role in relation to an acute paracetamol poisoning presentation and discusses current research on the benefits and disadvantages of paracetamol antidote regimes. A holistic approach is taken to consider the potenial long term physical and mental wellbeing following intentional overdose and the need for intraprofessional liaison and access to psychological support.
