Following bariatric surgery it can be difficult to determine what formulation or dosage of drug is correct. This article is a literature review to show the latest evidence; the underlying message is that we don't know enough and close monitoring is required of the patient

Why is it important?

Surgery for obesity is on the rise throughout the world, it is important to be aware of the impact of medicines that the patient may well be taking for co-morbidities.

Perspectives

I was asked to write this by the Editor. I am currently undertaking a PhD in an unrelated subject but felt able to conduct a literature review of the subject
