What is it about?
This review provides a background on the management of sports-related concussions in the emergency department. The variability in the injury sustained, the patient, and the outcomes following can be especially challenging for a clinician, and this aims to summarise the current evidence whilst providing practical advice to current clinicians.

Why is it important?
Sports concussion is common. Although the majority do not attend the hospital, many do every day country-wide. There has recently been a new UK national guidance on the management of sport-related concussion with the article introducing this guidance to clinicians, alongside placing it in the context of the sports-concussion literature.
