What is it about?
This article explores familial contributors to childhood obesity. Childhood obesity isn't simply caused by unhealthy food and lack of exercise, but from many contributors such as family stress, income levels, and how the family interacts together. It is important for providers to learn and understand the many ways a child can become obese so that the epidemic can be curbed.

Why is it important?
Obesity contributes to many health issues throughout the lifespan. It is important to aid children in maintaining a healthy weight so that they will have less health problems over all, and to also train them to have healthy life habits as an adult so that poor health outcomes do not appear in young adulthood.
Perspectives
This article only touches on Some contributors to childhood obesity that have been studied and published. Many more studies need to be conducted on different areas to give a broader understanding. It is imperative that a method of detecting the potential for childhood obesity be conducted with children at their well child visits with their provider so that if needed, interventions can be implemented to prevent or reverse the problem early in care.
