What is it about?
The authors describe the process rigor undertaken to standardize best practices for administering a first dose of a parenteral medication between Service Provider Organizations and the challenges we encountered along the way. The goal of providing consistent and equitable patient care from an SPO perspective was accomplished along with the learnings of working with the provincial funder and influencing national guideline development.

Why is it important?
The achievement of this work can be regarded as a system enabler by addressing the quintuple aim by facilitating earlier hospital discharge, equitable access to care to reduce the health human resources and potentially eliminating hospital visits of clients who require the first parenteral dose of a medication
Perspectives
This collaboration between 'competing' service provider organizations in Ontario was a huge win. The 3 co-authors all align in our view for patient safety and equitable care and will continue to work together with other community leaders to align in providing best practices for our patients.
