What is it about?
Breastfeeding is great for babies and mothers, however, many moms stop early because of sore nipples. We wanted to help fix this problem, so we created an easy-to-follow guide for preventing and treating sore nipples while breastfeeding. Here's how we did it: 1. We looked at lots of research about breastfeeding and nipple problems. We gathered advice and recommendations from trusted sources. 2. We organised this information into clear, step-by-step instructions and easy-to-follow diagrams. 3. We asked a group of experts - including doctors, midwives, health visits, doulas, community pharmacists, and experienced breastfeeding mothers - to review our guide and feedback. 4. We made changes based on the experts' suggestions. We did this three times to make sure the guide was as good as possible. The final result is a practical, evidence-based guide that includes: a) Tips for preventing sore nipples before birth and when starting breastfeeding b) A chart to help identify different types of nipple problems c) Clear instructions on what to do if nipple pain occurs d) Advice on getting support and dealing with common challenges Our goal was to create an easy-to-use resource that gives breastfeeding mothers clear, trustworthy information to help them have a more comfortable and successful breastfeeding experience.

Why is it important?
It is important to create a clear guide for preventing and treating sore nipples in breastfeeding mothers for several key reasons: 1) Many mothers stop breastfeeding earlier than desired due to nipple pain and injuries. Providing effective guidance can help more mothers continue breastfeeding successfully. 2) There's a lack of consistent, evidence-based information on managing injuries resulting from breastfeeding. By creating an accessible, evidence-based guide, this study aims to bridge the gap between research and practice, ultimately improving breastfeeding outcomes and experiences for mothers. 3) Experts believe UK first-time mothers are underprepared for breastfeeding challenges. 80.8% of the expert panel agreed that pregnant women need better education about what to expect. Thus, providing open, honest, and realistic information empowers mothers to make informed decisions and handle common breastfeeding challenges. By creating an accessible, evidence-based guide, this study aims to bridge the gap between research and practice, ultimately improving breastfeeding outcomes and experiences for mothers.
