What is it about?

This article aims to provide guidance for other midwifery staff and leaders on how to set up the 'collaborative learning in Practice' model for student supervision and placements at their location. Alongside adequate preparation of students and key personnel, it presents a modified model of CLiP (two students rather than three) to adapt the previous model of supervision to the coaching-based CLiP model.

Why is it important?

This article presents our pilot results when implementing CLiP and the lessons we have learnt from it. Collaborative Learning in Practice (CLiP) has a key role in facilitating placement capacity in midwifery whilst also developing students to become confident practitioners and independent thinkers. Peer learning enables senior midwifery students to support the development of junior students, whilst still receiving support from the practice supervisor (CLiP midwife).
