What is it about?
Venepuncture and cannulation are fundamental skills for registered nurses. This article provides an overview for mental health nurses of both skills including basic interpretation of blood values and important considerations when undertaking the procedures.

Why is it important?
As per the Nursing and Midwifery Council [NMC] these skills need to be undertaken safely and effectively to preserve safety and provide person-centred, evidence based care in line with the NMC code (2018) and Standards of proficiency for registered nurses (NMC, 2018).
