What is it about?

This research has explored the impact of using process mapping within the NHS. It uses interviews with employees in an NHS trust in the north-east of England to explore their experiences of being involved in process mapping. The research finds that employees felt more engaged and more satisfied following the process mapping activities.

Why is it important?

The evidence on use of lean systems in healthcare settings is very mixed. This research shows that there can be significant positives that come from use of lean systems. As such it will be of interest to anyone working or researching healthcare management.

Perspectives

I really enjoyed working on this publication. The findings were not what I initially expected and I think there is clearly a need for more research in this area.
