What is it about?

The researchers sought to get information on how pregnant women felt about diabetes mellitus during pregnancy and also assessed their knowledge of how diabetes mellitus in pregnancy can be prevented. The findings of the study showed that majority of the pregnant women who participated in the study felt they could not have diabetes mellitus in pregnancy. Also, they did not have good understanding of how to prevent diabetes melliuts during pregnancy.

Why is it important?

It is important because, how serious a pregnant woman perceived the risk of gestational diabetes determines her actions on how to prevent it. This study is timely because there is a continuous rise in gestational diabetes, hence knowledge of how to prevent it may help in reducing its prevalence.

Perspectives

This publication provides first hand information for pregnant women and healthcare workers to be able to understand how we can jointly ensure prevention of gestational diabetes through having positive perception of it.
