What is it about?

This is a study that investigates the effect of replacing a traditional scientific abstract with a poem. By analysing the responses of people with scientific backgrounds, I found that poetry as a form of abstract is slightly less accessible to a scientific audience, but that both abstracts maintained a similar primary focus.

Why is it important?

This work is important as it is the first step in trying to ascertain wether or not poetry can be used to make scientific research more accessible to the general public. The first step, however, is in trying to determine if such an approach would still be useful to the scientists that are reading the abstracts.
