What is it about?

This paper reports on a recent conference that was run by the Royal Society of Chemistry, and which was run entirely on Twitter. Participants uploaded their posters, which were then commented on and discussed by people from across the world. The initial results from this study indicate that such an approach would be an effective supplement to more traditional poster competitions.

Why is it important?

This work is important because it demonstrates how international conferences can take place using innovative applications of social media. Such an approach is not only cost effective, but also generates a much lower carbon footprint than more traditional conferences, and also offers other benefits that are discussed in the paper.
