What is it about?

Episodic events such as a salp bloom can re-direct ecosystem functions dramatically, but we are not equipped to understand such phenomena.

Why is it important?

Because we are attracted by regularities, but "history" is determined by irregularities that, unexpectedly, can change its course. This might be one of these irregularities.

Perspectives

Observing nature is still extremely important. Such events are not appreciated by machines, but if you simply "look" you can appreciate them.
