What is it about?
Trigeminal Neuralgia is a condition where patients experience severe and disabling facial pain. If medications don't work, one of the least invasive ways to treat this condition is Gamma Knife Radiosurgery. This is a particularly good choice for patients who would not be good candidates for surgery because of advanced age or other medical problems. Although Gamma Knife (a single-session, outpatient radiation procedure) is already well-accepted as a way to treat this condition, this research is the first to show that if Trigeminal Neuralgia comes back after the first treatment, Gamma Knife can be used AGAIN with good results.

Why is it important?
It is important for patients and their doctors to know, that even if Trigeminal Neuralgia comes back after treatment with Gamma Knife, this minimally invasive non-surgical treatment can be used a second time without a high risk of complications and with good outcomes.
