What is it about?

Anesthesiologists administer a large number of drugs in doses that only they calculate. This study sought to determine the error rate and size of the errors that trainees and faculty in anesthesia commit when they answered a 15 question test. We found that overall trainees and faculty committed a similar number of errors although when the error in the drug dose calculation exceeded 100 fold greater than the correct dose, trainees committed more errors than faculty. Supplementary verification is required to ensure we reduce drug errors in patients.
