What is it about?
This article is about “schwannomatosis” which is a neurogenetic disorder characterized by the formation of multiple schwannomas and occasionally meningiomas, with schwannomas frequently occurring in the spine (74%), peripheral nerves (89%), and cranial nerve (mostly trigeminal, 8%).

Why is it important?
Schwannomas are generally benign, but their malignant transformation may occur occasionally. Newly developed malignant schwannomas may be found during follow-up. Patients with comorbid conditions tend to have a higher risk for malignancy.
