What is it about?

This paper talks about the use of a geophysical technique to help archaeologists discover more subsurface evidence for a early Christian church, in Greece. The geophysical technique is called Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and is an efficient and fast method to map the subsurface. The exploration of Christian and Byzantine Messene has shown an important settlement flourishing after the great Roman town of SW Greece.

Why is it important?

Archaeologists usually dig based on hypotheses and historical sources, which sometimes are not that accurate. Helping them find the exact places of their future excavation is important.
