What is it about?
Understanding how fractures in coal seams help to predict the production performance of a well. Sonic and resistivity image log reveal stress state and fracture conditions, and we link fracture orientations to fast shear wave angles.

Why is it important?
We have found by using Mohr's Coulomb criteria that fractures in coal seams are not interconnected and therefore there was no gas production to date after the dewatering period. Our observations indicated that identified fractures existed in a non-critically stressed condition, suggesting a lack of interconnectivity among them. These findings correspond to the absence of gas production to date, providing insights into the dynamics of fractures and their impact on production behavior.
