What is it about?

Nnamdi Azikiwe University Geophysical Society (SEG-NAU) designed the Chapters and Universities Mentorship Circle to mentor student chapters in taking advantage of the numerous benefits of SEG at their institutions. This experience can be an example to other student chapters.

Why is it important?

Collaboration and Mentorship are important ingredients for professional growth of both individuals and organizations. In this article, we shared our experience in mentoring other student chapters to establish new SEG student chapters and reactivate their existing student chapters. This is to expose them to access the great benefits of SEG at their institutions. These benefits include access to trainings, workshops and field camps that takes Geosciences beyond the Classroom. This is particularly important to Geoscience Students in Africa where field engagements are relatively low.

Perspectives

I enjoyed writing this article because it helped me to reflect on how SEG has connected me with bright minds across Nigeria. I appreciate my co-author who is passionate about SEG and currently the chapter president of Ekiti State University Geophysical Society. I hope that this article inspires other student chapters to collaborate effectively to create high-impact programs for SEG student members across the world.
