What is it about?

The first Student chapter of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) in Ukraine was created at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2002. Chapter's history used the different SEG programs and initiatives of its members. This activity led to obtaining an Award as the Best SEG student chapter in 2018. Our experience can be an example for other students.

Why is it important?

The history of the cell shows that the use of SEG programs made it possible to receive geophysical information, invite lecturers, participate in educational courses, student symposia, organize field camps, seminars, etc. This requires effort, but is possible for active participants of the chapter. The high result of the work was achieved only with the team work of students. This activity broadens the professional horizons of chapter's participants.

Perspectives

Writing this article was a great pleasure, since the author was Faculty advisor of SEG Kyiv student chapter during 16 years, as well as my co-author, is the initiator of its creation with whom I have had long standing collaboration. I hope that this article does what students might think about the possibilities that SEG gives. This makes study more interesting, purposeful and allows you to get acquainted with new friends around the world. This is important for the professional growth and development of the Society of Earth Sciences, especially in period of many challenges on our planet.
