What is it about?

We derived an approximate reflection coefficient equation for overburden-stressed media, and establish the relevant Bayesian inversion approach to estimate four parameters. We test this approach with the well-data-based synthetic data and field seismic data. The presence of SRP effectively eliminates the need for 3oECs information when using our method to estimate the desired stratum properties from seismic observations.

Why is it important?

The in-situ stress is ubiquitous in the subsurface strata. The consideration of stress impact in the seismic inversion process can help increase the accuracy of estimates of strata parameters from observed seismic data.

Perspectives

I am glad to write this paper in the hope of providing some insights into the stress-dependent PP-wave reflectivity parameterization and seismic inversion method for a wide audience of geophysical exploration professionals.
