What is it about?

Our study allows you to solve the equation of acoustic wave propagation quickly and accurately in a complex anisotropic medium. We have kept the physicality of the process, avoiding the typical cumbersome solutions found in other publications on this topic.

Why is it important?

Obtaining high-quality images of subsurface structure for the needs of geophysics, oil and gas, or brain and organ tomography in medicine relies on solving the forward problem of wave propagation. We were able to make this process efficient and fast, while providing the most accurate physical approximation of the medium.

Perspectives

This research will make the most technologically advanced and accurate modeling on a large scale more accessible in terms of the resources required. The most promising applications of the technology at the moment are geophysics with oil and gas needs and tomography tasks in medicine.
