What is it about?
The paper provides the logic for Markov model (that is to say, with a recursive covariance matrix that is easy to invert in the same way as the animal model. The major point is that IBD (identity by descent) is used in segments rather than a discrete points, making the variance across evaluations much smaller, so that the evaluations are consistent from year to year. Markers on three generations of individuals are needed: grandparents, parents and offspring.

Perspectives
It has been used in the genetic evaluations of the Brangus and Braford breeds. Sooner or later it will become pervasive.
