What is it about?
This study compares the traditional method of culturing bacteria from wounds with the novel clinical testing method of sequencing the DNA of bacteria in the wound sample.

Why is it important?
Unraveling the components of biofilms in chronic wounds requires the identification of the bacteria in those biofilms. This study demonstrates that molecular testing and culture testing can identify similar bacteria in chronic wounds, but molecular testing is more sensitive and quantitative. The results reported in this study were acquired through routine patient care.
