What is it about?
In this study we have assessed how common severe asthma is in Sweden, Norway, and Finland. The prevalence ranges from 3-5% in adults and less than 1% in children aged 6-17 years. Furthermore, we have found that the severe asthma populations in the three Nordic countries are quite similar with respect to demographics, medication use, and a range of asthma control measure. We have also assessed the proporiton of patients with severe asthma and frequent exacerbations that is managed by a respiratory specialist. This was 37% in Sweden and 40% in Norway, in adults and 56% and 41% in children, respectively.
